Герой Lost Planet 3 — пилот Джим Пейтон, принявший рискованное, но выгодное деловое предложение компании «Нео Венус Конструкции» (НЕВЕК). Вылетев с Земли на планету Э.Д.Н. III, которую компания подготавливает к колонизации, Джим присоединяется к товарищам-первопроходцам на базе Корониса. Там он приступает к исследованию территории и сбору образцов термальной энергии, составляющей энергетический запас планеты.
Поскольку запасы термальной энергии НЕВЕК подходят к концу, судьба миссии на Коронисе зависит от того, удастся ли добыть энергию из найденного природного источника.
